What to expect: Starting and finishing at the Guildhall Square, the two-lap Southampton Marathon racecourse weaves its way in and around the city taking in the Itchen Bridge, St Mary’s ‘Saints’ Football Stadium, the riverside and Southampton Common. This year, celebrating 90 years of the iconic Spitfire in 2026, participants and spectators will be treated to an eight-minute flypast over the marathon start line. Eyes up at 8.30am, Dock Gate 8 If you don’t fancy the full marathon, there’s a half marathon, 10k and 5k challenges and a 1 mile fun run.

What to expect:&nbsp;Spring into the 2025 triathlon scene with this Winchester event at Kings School: a 400m swim, 22km bike and 5km cross-country run over hilly terrain in the ancient capital. For newbies there’s a Novice Triathlon with a less gruelling 200m swim; 11km Bike and 2.5km Run, and a children&#8217;s triathlon for kids aged 8 &#8211; 15.

What to expect:&nbsp;Soak up the view and the sea air on this fundraising spring walk to Lymington&#8217;s Oakhaven Hospice along beautiful seafront coastal paths. Take the 8 mile-stretch&nbsp;from Barton-on-Sea, 14&nbsp;miles&nbsp;from Mudeford or&nbsp;26 miles&nbsp;from Sandbanks and earn your medal and fizz at the finish line.

With supplied kayaks, full water safety cover and a friendly, fun-focused vibe, it’s a feel-good multi-sport challenge with a splash.

What to expect:&nbsp;Go big, bigger or biggest on the Serpent Trail, from 10k up to 100k, the entire length of this stunning long&nbsp;distance route in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.southdowns.gov.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">South Downs National Park</a>. Running from Haslemere in West Sussex through Surrey and over the border to Petersfield, Hampshire, there’s miles of woodland, ridges and heathland to enjoy along the way. If the whopping 50k, 75k or 100k events sound too epic, sign-up for the 10k tail-end of the Serpent for less of a sting.

What to expect?&nbsp;A historic, undulating route taking in Cowes, Gurnard, Shalfleet and Yarmouth, The Isle of Wight Marathon been going strong since 1957 and lays claim to being one of the first and the longest running marathon events in the UK. Expect sea views, rolling hills and a good dose of Island charm.

What to expect:&nbsp;Starting in town, the Basingstoke Half Marathon event heads out onto closed minor roads, taking in hills near Cliddesden and Farleigh Wallop, beautiful countryside and villages. There&#8217;s also a free to enter, mile-long family-friendly race for children aged 5-10.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-bournemouth-half-marathon-dorset"><a href="https://www.runbournemouth.com/halfmarathon" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bournemouth Half Marathon</a>, Dorset</h2>



When:&nbsp;10 &#8211; 11 October 2026

What to expect:&nbsp;Just over the border in Dorset, breathe (or gulp) in plenty of sea air on the Bournemouth Half. It heads out from Hengistbury Head and winds along clifftops, seafront and promenades, ending up at Bournemouth Pier. A bonus, finishers get official bragging-rights merchandise including a t-shirt and shiny medal. There&#8217;s a Junior 2K for 9 &#8211; 12 year-olds. Littlies aged 3-6 can also run in this one: the Kids’ Kilometre takes in the iconic Bournemouth Pier.

What to expect: An autumn off-road/on-road mash-up, the Deviation Duathlon serves up scenic woodland trail runs paired with a looped road cycling section featuring a few punchy hills. Based at Henry Cort Community College with plenty of free parking, the event offers Sprint, Standard and Long distances, all chip-timed with a bespoke medal and goodies at the finish. A great seasonal challenge for duathletes of all levels.
