Cool coastal homewares

Calming, cool or quirky – support local with fabulous coastal art and homewares from around Hampshire and the Island.

We’re dreaming of sunny days by the water. Flying a kite along the cliffs, breathing bracing, restorative, salty sea air. Sitting on the beach and watching sailing boats bob by in the distance. Bliss.

Happily for those of us living in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight such seaside adventures are never far away. Until we can get out there and really have at them, dip a toe in the water with these cool coastal homewares from brilliant local makers and sellers.

Muddy absolutely loves XV Stripes. Cool blue hues, nautical throws, cushions and candles perfectly encapsulate a calm, coastal vibe. Founder and Isle of Wight local Izzey Hung is a keen sailor and has a big fanbase among the international sailing community for her nautical collections. We absolutely love the chart-detail on this stunning ‘Racing in the Solent’ cushion (£80). See you at the finish line!

Lymington-based Blubambu is a treasure trove of sustainably crafted, reclaimed teak furniture, Scandi-inspired accessories and coastal homewares. Handmade in Bali, each fish in these 1 – 3 metre metal shoal artworks (£325 – £995) is hand-cut. Look out too for coastal-style reclaimed wood d-Bodhi coffee table.

Expect eye-catching prints, cheeky gifts and beautiful homewares from Port and Lemon‘s design studio in Titchfield, near Southampton. We’re big fans of their bold graphic-print homewares, produced under license from local artists. After a walk by the sea, kick back with a coffee poured in these swirling, hand decorated, bone china mugs (£12/each).

Lavender coastal decoration, Seashells and Lavender

Seashells and Lavender fish coastal homewares

Artist and designer Jo Jeffery creates the beautiful designs for her Seashell and Lavender coastal homewares in her Isle of Wight design studio. Like many islanders, she lives beside the sea and is surrounded by inspiring countryside and seaside vistas. Surely the most fragrant fish on the Island, we’ve sniffed out these ocean hanging decorations (£7/each). Individually handmade, each one is filled with dried lavender from her garden.

Crab print napkins, Monique Lucas

Also on the Isle of Wight is Monique Lucas. The artist and coastal homewares designer takes her inspiration from islands near and far. The exotic shores of the Far East, the sultry islands of Florida’s Keys and of course, the brilliant vistas and sea life right here in Blighty. Tickling our fancy for Spring/Summer dining we love these gorgeous crab print napkins (£34/4).

A Muddy-award winner and go-to for coastal art, the Seaview Art Gallery on the Isle of Wight represents some fantastic local talent. One of our current favourites is this beautiful seascape by Cowes-based artist Kate Richardson. Entitled ‘Three Friends Together‘ (£795), the acrylic on canvas painting is a beautiful encapsulation of the local sailing scene. Buy it before the end of March 2021 for £715 as part of the Seaview Gallery’s current promotion.
