Gotta Have It
With sandy toes and salty lips, here's our pick of beachside must-haves from some of the best indies from in and around Hants and IoW.
Summer means beach time, whether you’re enjoying the fab sandy shores of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight or jetting off to somewhere exotic. If you’re heading off to the seaside then you’re going to need a few essentials, and where better to find them than with one of these fab indie businesses who know a thing or two about sun, sand and style.
Beach Tote, Wyatt & Jack, from £125
First up we have this super bright weekender tote from Isle of Wight outfit Wyatt & Jack. Each piece is made from retired bouncy castles, inflatables and deckchairs so it’s got oodles of sustainability kudos along with being waterproof. If the bright mermaid print isn’t your thing (though I bet you’d spot it a mile off on the beach), it also comes in a range of colours and finishes for all tastes.
Laura Jane Paris ‘Zara’ Kaftan, Meraki Beach, £29.99
This fab little number is the perfect throw over your head, post-swim. With its bright summery colours and fringing detail, it adds a little bohemian nod to your seaside get up. Sold by Meraki Beach on the Hants/Dorset border, they have some fab outfits for all summer occasions.
Vidoretta Lino Wedge Sandals, No. 33 Lymington, £45
Summer is all about the wedge, comfortable, practical and practically screams beachside life. These espadrille wedges are the embodiment of the Spanish look and neutral enough to go with most outfits.
Organic Pharmacy Celluar Sun Cream SPF 25, Seaweed Lifestyle, £39
A good SPF is an absolute necessity in Summer (and the rest of the year, for that matter!) and finding one that does its job with minimal nasties can be a task, but this Organic Pharmacy Celluar Sun Cream ticks all those boxes. Developed in Oz, where sun protection is practically gospel, this product contains Zinc Clear, Pongamia, Pearl Extract and lots of other skin loveliness.
Quick dry towel in ‘Cracking Coconut’, Dock & Bay, £21 for large or £24 for X-large
One of the downsides of the beach is the sand. Oh god, it gets EVERYWHERE! And when you’ve been for a dip you can end up caked in the stuff. If you’re looking for a brand new beach towel then check out the fab range over at Dock & Bay. This brand appeared on Dragons’ Den with their super-cool, quick-dry towels and they’re also SANDPROOF! They’re so loved that you’ll find these towels in plenty of cottages and self-catering spots around Hampshire. And if you fancy something a little bit less fruity, they also have a range of colours, styles and sizes.
