<p>With its gleaming superyacht-inspired design overlooking Ocean Village Marina, <a href="https://www.harbourhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/hampshire/harbour-hotel-southampton" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Southampton Harbour Hotel</a> has been turning heads since opening in 2017. Part of the Harbour Hotels collection, it&#8217;s a local favourite for stylish weekend breaks, spa escapes, cool cocktails in the rooftop HarBar and convenient pre- or post-cruise stays. With 117 rooms, a spa and fitness facilities, rooftop bar and excellent dining, you might check in intending to explore Southampton but you’ll probably end up never wanting to leave the hotel.</p>

<p>A modern, boutique design hotel designed to awe &#8211; and it does. The building itself is designed to resemble a superyacht, with sweeping curves, floor-to-ceiling glass and bright, contemporary interiors flooded with natural light. Outside, Ocean Village&#8217;s marina is filled with sleek yachts (and the odd supercar), while inside there&#8217;s a polished but comfortingly relaxed atmosphere.</p>



<p>Couples on romantic breaks mingle with families celebrating special occasions, spa-goers drift around in fluffy robes and locals pop in for top-notch dining at The Jetty restaurant and lunch, romantic meals and cocktails at HarBAR on 6th. It&#8217;s glamorous without trying too hard with friendly staff to put you fully at ease.</p>

<p>Rooms at Southampton Harbour Hotel continue the luxe, contemporary feel with crisp décor, marble bathrooms and all the comforts you&#8217;d expect from a five-star stay. If you really want to push the boat out (ho ho!) there are some seriously impressive suites. </p>

<p>Ours felt wonderfully spacious, with a lounge, Juliet balcony overlooking the marina, an enormous super-king bed and both a walk-in rainfall shower and freestanding bath worthy of a proper soak. Throw in a Nespresso machine, complimentary gin (always appreciated) and those marvellous marina views and it&#8217;s the sort of room that&#8217;s dangerously easy to linger in long after checkout.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-spa">SPA</h2>

<p>One of the hotel&#8217;s biggest draws is HarSPA, tucked away on the ground floor. There&#8217;s a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and a well-equipped gym if you&#8217;re feeling virtuous. The pool isn&#8217;t Olympic-sized but it&#8217;s perfect for a few leisurely lengths before settling into the hydrotherapy pool to properly unwind.</p>

<p>The real highlight? The treatments. Booked as part of a relaxing Sleep Retreat, I had a blissful, 60-minute full-body TempleSpa Drift Away Massage using lavender, frankincense and other calming essential oils. It&#8217;s exactly the kind of treatment that has you questioning whether you really need to go home afterwards.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-scoff-amp-quaff">SCOFF &amp; QUAFF</h2>

<p>While the acclaimed Jetty Restaurant sits on the waterfront downstairs, HarBAR on 6th is very much the heart of the hotel. It&#8217;s where guests enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea and – perhaps most importantly – sunset cocktails.</p>



<p>The rooftop space strikes a lovely balance between stylish and welcoming, with flower-covered ceilings, an outdoor terrace overlooking the marina and plenty of people discreetly photographing their drinks before taking the first sip.</p>

<p>The menu leans towards elevated comfort food rather than anything overly fussy. We started with sweet potted shrimp served with pickles and toasted sourdough and a satisfyingly smoky haddock and salmon fishcake.</p>

<p>Mains were equally impressive: a beautifully slow-cooked lamb shank perched on truffled mash, while the burrata ravioli with roasted tomatoes, sage and brown butter was every bit as indulgent as it sounds. A crisp glass of Picpoul made the perfect accompaniment, with the thoughtfully organised wine list making choosing remarkably easy.</p>



<p>Breakfast the following morning is equally polished, with everything from a full cooked breakfast to lighter continental options served with those same marina views.</p>

<p>If you do manage to leave the hotel, Ocean Village has plenty within strolling distance, from waterside restaurants and bars to pleasant marina walks and the neighbouring Harbour Lights cinema. Southampton city centre is also walkable for shopping, a movie or even an Escape Room experience at at Westquay. There’s also the awesome Titanic Story at the SeaCity Museum, not to mention West-End shows at The Mayflower Theatre. If you’ve time to adventure further afield, the ferry terminal makes it easy to hop across to the Isle of Wight. But truthfully? Most guests seem perfectly content staying put.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-family-friendly">FAMILY FRIENDLY?</h2>



<p>Yes – there’s a definite adult vibe here but families are welcome too with interconnecting rooms, rollaway beds and children&#8217;s swim times, while HarBAR and The Jetty both happily cater for younger diners with childrens’ menus and highchairs.</p>

<p><strong>Good for</strong>: Romantic weekends, pre-cruise stays, celebratory staycations, girls&#8217; getaways and anyone who loves a stylish rooftop cocktail with their luxury hotel.</p>



<p><strong>Not for:</strong> Southampton Harbour Hotel is sleek, modern and very much a city hotel – head to the nearby New Forest instead if you’re after scenic countryside. The kids’ll love it too – but if you’ve splurged on a suite, find a babysitter if you can or you might regret not having it all to yourself.</p>



<p><strong>The damage: </strong>Prepare to splurge – though there’s often <a href="https://www.harbourhotels.co.uk/our-hotels/hampshire/harbour-hotel-southampton/offers-events" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">deals</a> to be had. Rooms typically start from around £170, rising to around £450 for suites. TempleSpa massages range from £105-£150. The Sleep Retreat package, including an overnight stay, 60-minute TempleSpa Drift Away massage, HarSPA access, three-course dinner at HarBAR on 6th, breakfast and TempleSpa&#8217;s Do Not Disturb collection costs between £450-£800 for two.</p>
