<p>Fancy a curry? A sister site to Southampton’s Westquay Shopping Centre, <a href="https://tapandtandoor.co.uk/pages/whats-on-tap-in-portsmouth" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tap and Tandoor</a> is poised to open in Portsmouth&#8217;s Gunwharf Quays this month. As the name suggests, along with tandoor meats, traditional curries, small plates and naan sliders, it&#8217;ll have a choice of changing craft beers on tap.</p>

Sun or showers, next time we&#8217;re in Portsmouth we&#8217;ll also be heading for <a href="https://hivebarsouthsea.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hive</a> cocktail bar in Southsea&#8217;s Osbourne Road, opened in late 2023. Full on holiday vibes.</p>

<p>Tipped as a one to watch by Muddy and voted best new business in the 2023 awards, chef Daniel Rogan&#8217;s <a href="https://hants.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/restaurant-ao-southampton/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Restaurant AO</a> has passed muster with the critics, scoring a listing in the Michelin guide and place in <a href="https://www.squaremeal.co.uk/restaurants/best/uk-top-100-restaurants_238" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Squaremeal&#8217;s Top 100 Restaurants for 2024</a>. Originally in Southampton, the restaurant recently upped sticks and took up residence at nearby Sunnyfield&#8217;s Farm in Totton. That&#8217;s farm-to-fork on a whole new level.</p>

<p>This one looks like a goodie. A collaboration between the Island&#8217;s popular Pickle &amp; Dill deli and whiskey shop Sip and Smoke, <a href="https://www.paseoiow.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Paseo Tapas Restaurant</a> on the Ryde seafront has opened with a menu of traditional Spanish tapas and small plates in the main restaurant and a bar menu for night owls.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-two-new-island-cafes-locals-are-loving">TWO NEW ISLAND CAFES LOCALS ARE LOVING</h2>

<p>Turns out new cafés on the Isle of Wight are like buses &#8211; you wait ages for one and then two come along at once. That&#8217;s not the only thing they have in common either: both are new independents with cool, minimalist Scandi vibes. Hot on the heels of the <a href="https://hants.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflashy-newsflash-nov-2023/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new Thai restaurant</a> in the idyllic village, Islanders now also have <a href="https://www.instagram.com/loaph_iow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Loaph</a> <em>(above)</em>, a brand new coffee and brunch spot in Godshill. (Think flaky weekend pastries and build-your-own healthy small plate brunches). And just opened in Bembridge, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/lagomisleofwight/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lagom Coffee</a> is a fresh venture for the recently retired former rugby pro Richard de Carpentier.</p>

<p>On the subject of cafés, it was mixed emotions when the popular Party at the Mill closed in December. Taking its place will be a sixth branch of the Muddy Award-winning <a href="https://www.josieswinecoffee.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Josie&#8217;s</a>. Once you&#8217;ve had the epic loaded pancakes, you&#8217;ll never look back!</p>

<p>Also still to come this year, locals, weekend trippers and fans of the existing Two AA Rosette <a href="https://www.heroniow.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heron restaurant in Ryde</a> can look forward to a new branch of the restaurant. Set to open in spring, we&#8217;re yet to narrow down a location. Could the (sadly) recently closed Gastronomy Cowes site on the High Street be a contender?</p>
