Fabulously Festive Wreath Workshops
Take that festive prep to the next level. Fashion your very own Christmas Wreath at one these fab workshops around the counties.
What is it about festive wreath-making? I think I must be the only woman I know who doesn’t have a DIY ring of holly hanging from my front door over the festive period – but, hey, my family is lucky if I get around to buying them presents, let alone hand-crafting decorations.
But whether it’s the chance to get artsy and crafty, the unmissable Instagram boasting opportunities or the free mulled wine while you beaver away with twigs and foliage, you lot are certainly mad about making them.
As such, there’s loads of workshops springing up in the weeks ahead – but be quick, they’re selling like hot mince pies. If we’ve missed any good ones that still have availability, just let us know in the comments box below and we’ll add them to the list.
Bel and the Dragon, Kingsclere, (Tue 27 & Thu 29 Nov, 7:30pm), £45pp
Calling on the skills of Susie Babington of Susie Babington Gardens, you can join the team at the Bel and the Dragon in Kingsclere for an evening of festive wreath making (with the added bonus of a seasonal cocktail and canapés). Not only has this country inn got some major swag with their food, but its the perfect countryside setting to get in the spirit.
Ventnor Botanical Gardens, (Sat 1 – Sun 2 December, 10:30am – 4:30pm) £25pp
Not only is the Ventnor Botanical Gardens a beautiful place to spend a day, but with their very own micro-climate (it’s a big thing on the Island) they have access to plants and flora you wouldn’t expect at this time of year. This is a full-day event and we think they mean business, as they ask you to bring your own gloves and secateurs. But for £25pp it’s utterly fantastic value and a great way to spend a day on the Isle of Wight.
Elly and Hayley, St Mary Bourne Village Hall, (Sun 2 & Sat 8 Dec, 11am-2:3opm), £45pp
Guided by florist, Eloise Roberts and interior designer, Hayley Stuart, you can craft a fantastic wreath of winter foliage for your front door with a good side-helping of village charm. Situated in the small village of St Mary Bourne, you’ll be treated to some expert knowledge, a festive lunch and treats (and isn’t this what the season is all about?) plus a pretty fabulous creation to take home.
The Ivy, Winchester, (Mon 3 Dec, 7.30pm – 10.30pm), £75pp
If you’re looking for the most luxe wreath going then you won’t be able to beat The Ivy’s masterclass to festive foliage. Not only can you sit sipping champers and nibbling canapés in the fabulous surroundings of their private dining room, but its led by the fabulous local floral outfit, Catkin & Pussywillow. Fabulous darling!
La di da and Blooming Cow, Andover, (Sat 8 Dec, 4pm – 6pm), £65pp
You had better be quick to book this one, as they’ve already sold out two workshops in the lead up to the season. Combining the gift giving forces of La di da and Becky from Blooming Cow Flowers, you can add an extra bit of spectacle into your festive wreath here. Along with the usual foliage and florals, they’ve also got some free-range pheasant feathers to add a good slog of countryside charm. Included in your ticket is a glass of Prosecco, tea and coffee, and the promise of lots of mince pies.
New Forest Lavender Farm, (Mon 10 Dec, 2pm – 4.30pm, Tue 11 Dec, 10 am – 12.30pm), £48pp
For a fragrant and slightly unusual take on the festive adornment, the New Forest Lavender Farm are holding their own wreath making workshop where you can add a little bit of that purple foliage into the mix. Along with your materials, your costs include tea, coffee and some of their handmade lavender shortbread (oooh, yes please).
Peony Blue, Titchfield Common, Fareham, (Various dates and times)
Peony Blue’s wreath workshop has already sold out WAAAAYYY in advance (and we can totally see why), but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out on their Christmas crafty fabulousness, no, no, no! If your door is already sorted, here you can deck out the rest of the house with workshops for Garlands, Willow Wreaths and, on the 20 Dec (so just in time for the holiday itself) the most fantastic Christmas Table Arrangement you can imagine. Book up fast though or to avoid a mad dash for a sad supermarket wreath on Christmas Eve.
The Garlic Farm, (Wed 12 Dec, 6pm – 9pm), £40pp
The famous Garlic Farm is holding their very own Christmas Wreath Making evening as part of their festive calendar and we love the sound of it. As well as the chance to create your own wreath, you’re also treated to a light supper and a glass of wine from their fabulous kitchen and while I’m not sure if you’ll be putting garlic on the wreaths themselves (should keep any winter vamps away I guess?), they have oodles of countryside to source brilliant flora and foliage from.
