EXHIBITION: Hampshire Open Studios, various locations, Sat 17 – Mon 26 Aug
With over 280 venues across the entire county taking part this is one of the largest celebrations of Hampshire creativity. From glassware to jewellery, painting to patchwork, wherever you are in the county you can find something amazing right on your doorstep.
THEATRE: Saturday Night Fever, The Mayflower, Southampton, Tues 20 – Sat 24 Aug
The Mayflower in Southampton gets all 70s with Saturday Night Fever between the Tues 20 – Sat 24. Featuring Casualty and Matthew Bourne’s Richard Winsor as ‘Tony Manero’, you best pull out those bellbottoms and start practising your hand jive.
EVENT: DollyFest, Overton, Thurs 22 – Mon 26 Aug
Have you met Dolly? Dolly is the hardest working 2CV going and of course, she lives in Hampshire. As well as being the world’s smallest food truck, mobile bar, travelling foodie pop-up and full-time eco champion, she even has her own festival. Yep! This weekend Overton is celebrating all things Dolly and you get the chance to meet the car herself.. and she is an absolute beaut. Expect live music, fab food and drink, plus plenty of Insta-fodder of the car herself.
FOOD & DRINK: Cliff House Gin & Beer Festival, Thurs 22 – Mon 26 Aug
And if you want even more gin (plus some beer and fab sea views), then make a beeline for The Cliff House in Barton on Sea during the Bank Holiday Weekend (Thurs 22 – Mon 26) as its holding its ever-popular Gin & Beer Festival. OUTDOORS: Isle of Wight Scooter Rally, Ryde, Fri 23 – Mon 26 Aug
Last week the Island was full of yachts and this week it’s rammed with ‘peds. Don an ancient parka and see the weird and the wonderful of the two-stroke world as the Mods and Scooter Boys descend on the Island. Covering all the eras, this is a sight to behold and will have over 5,000 scooters coming from across the globe (plus some of the jazziest paint jobs going).
FESTIVAL: CarFest South, Laverstoke Park Farm, Fri 23 – Sun 25 Aug
A celebration of music, cars, fab food, all curated by a 90s pop culture icon. Chris Evans’ CarFest South is back and even bigger than ever. Located on Formula 1 ledge Jodie Scheckter’s farm (which makes a cracking buffalo mozzarella by the way), check out acts like Tom Odell, Texas, Boy George and many more.
FESTIVAL: Victorious Festival, Portsmouth, Fri 23 – Sun 25 Aug
The August Bank Holiday means that Victorious Festival returns one aagain to Southsea Common and the music landscape for this year is huge. New Order, The Specials, Doves, Two Door Cinema Club plus an amazing World Music Stage, Comedy and a fab kids field rammed with lots of fun (and free) activities.
FOOD & DRINK: Gin & Prosecco Festival, Ageas Bowl Southampton, Sat 24 Aug
It’s the Bank Holiday and that can only mean one thing, time for a drink! For all you gin and fizz lovers the epic Ageas Bowl is hosting its first-ever Gin & Prosecco Fest and it’s going to be HUGE. As well as live music, cocktail making masterclasses and plenty of testers, you also get your very own Gin Bible to take home (ideal so you can remember all your faves after too many… *hic*). Tickets are £12 in advance, £15 on the day with a free drink arrival. Additional drinks tokens can be purchased for £6 each.
FESTIVAL: Burley Festival, Sat 24 – Sun 25 Aug
All the fabulous creativity of the New Forest is packed into Burley this weekend for a celebration of art, food and drink. Local artists, artisans and traders will be in-situ with a chance to check out local gin, chocolate crafters, jewellery makers and there’s live music and a cocktail competition (I can judge that, right?) Entrance is a smile-inducing £1.
OUTDOORS: Wellington Horse Trials, Sat 24 – Mon 26 Aug
Giddy up for the Wellington Horse Trials this weekend. As well as a fantastic array of horse jumping, dog events and ferret racing (gotta love the countryside) there’s also an enormous Pimms bus where I’m sure you’ll find me hanging around as well.
EVENT: Petersfield Summer Festival, Sat 24 – Mon 26 Aug
If you’ve not had the chance to visit pretty little Petersfield then this weekend is a great time to go. The gorgeous little market town, which has some excellent boutiques to check out, is transformed into a hive of community activity with the annual Summer Festival this Bank Holiday weekend. With kids activities (including my fave, axe throwing!), vintage cars, local market and live music, it’s free to attend (some activities may have an extra cost) and is a great way to see the summer out with a bang.
FOOD & DRINK: Gin Tasting, Heckfield Place, Sat 24 Aug
For Gin Lovers (aren’t we all?) then super swanky Heckfield Place is holding a fab Gin Tasting Workshop on Sat 24 with Will Lowe – co-founder and master distiller for Cambridge Distillery. For £65 you’ll get to learn and sample at the hands of a botanical master.
OUTDOORS: Cowes Classic Powerboat Festival, Sun 25 Aug
An epic race of speed and stamina, the Cowes Classic Powerboat kicks off from the Island this Sunday. One of the most respected powerboat races in the world, up to 20 teams will race a whopping 200 miles in under 3 hours. Yikes, that’s fast!
THEATRE: Wuthering Heights, Gilbert White’s House, Selborne, Sun 25 Aug
Possibly every teenage girl’s first crush, brooding Heathcliff gets brought to life this weekend at this al fresco performance of Emily Brontë’s classic tale – Wuthering Heights. Set in the gorgeous gardens at Gilbert White’s House, everybody’s favourite tale of love and hate in the Yorkshire Moors is the perfect spot of culture for a sunny Sunday evening. Tickets are £16 for adults and £11 for children.

Celebrating the Bank Holiday Monday in style, you can have a peruse around some of the best artisan producers Hampshire and nearby has to offer (not to mention pop to the pubs for a bit of Bank Holiday hair of the dog).
OUTDOORS: Emsworth Horticultural Show, Mon 26 Aug
If the Bank Holiday Monday is giving you green-fingered urges, then how about a sedate toddle down to the Emsworth to have a gawp over some impressive flora and foliage? The Emsworth Show is the spot to grab some perfect perennials, check out some local traders and have a lovely walk around this Hants/Sussex border town.
EVENT: The Great Overton Duck Race, Mon 26 Aug
We love a quackers Bank Holiday tradition and the Great Overton Duck Race is just that. Quite simply, they throw a load of rubber ducks into the River Test and the winner bags £50. Actually, it’s a bit more than that, there’s actually eight separate races and the community comes together to raise money for local causes. Simple, super quirky and always a pleaser for the kids, we love it.
Arundel Festival, various Arundel locations, Fri 16 – Mon 26 Aug
Arundel Festival returns and was always the highlight of my Summer as a kid. With plenty of live music (ABBA tribute, I see you there strutting your stuff!), Dragon Boat Races and the Gallery Trail (perfect opportunity to see inside some of those beautiful houses). Get there early (best car park is on Mill Road) to explore this absolutely gorgeous little town at its peak.
KIDS: Maize Maze, Bucklebury Farm Park, now – 30 Sep
If you’re looking for covert and creative ways to lose your kids for a five minutes over the school holidays, there’s always Bucklebury Farm Park’s Maize Maze. New for 2019, your kids will run wild, answer clues and discover the homes of Stanley the Stag, Freddie Fox, Mary Mouse and Ola Owl.

Make like Henry VIII and chow down at this fab food festival at Hampton Court Palace. Fingers crossed for sun, fun and plenty of tasty morsels to try with live cooking demos, music and lots of fab local fare.
