This Weekend

When it comes to food, Lymington is the promised land. Sandwiched between The New Forest and the Solent, it’s the original home of surf n’turf before Wetherspoons et al grubbed the phrase with their deep-freeze, bread-crumb hands. Enough of that. Step forward the brand new Lymington Seafood Festival: a chance to graze your way through local fishy delights, langoustine, mackerel, lobster mac and cheese; brush up your wannabe-Michelin skills with demos from The New Forest’s finest chefs; visit The Fizz Tin (love that name); sample locally distilled Dancing Cows gin then stumble-sway gently to live jazz, folk, ska and a sea shanty or two.  Time to dig-out your halo as well because the whole weekend is not-for-profit, raising money for Blue Marine Foundation’s Solent Oyster Restoration Project (go on, say that after a glass or two of Hambledon sparkling).
