It’s sparkly, saucy and features a heck of a lot of Cyndi Lauper (Oh yes!) The fantastic showstopping musical Kinky Boots sashays into Southampton this week, with some sparkle and flair. The jaw-dropping Lola will be portrayed by West End alum Kayi Ushe and supported by Corrie’s Paula Lane and Joel Harper-Jackson, in this heart-warming, high-strutting show.

MUSIC: Beyond the West End, Shanklin, Theatre, Wed 4 – Thurs 26

For those who love a touch of la fromage, encourage those sing-along vibes with Beyond the West End at Shanklin Theatre. Running between Wed 4 – Thurs 26 it’s rammed full of songs and show tunes. Think Whitney Houston. Carousel, Tina Turner and of course, The Greatest Showman.

MUSIC: Have I Got Tunes For You, Stansted House, Havant, Thurs 12 Sep

Head for a cheeky weeknight concert at the beautiful Stansted House with this evening of tunes written by Sir Patrick Moore (yep, the astronomer). He was a keen xylophonist (who knew?) and musician, composing many scores and tinkling the ivories in the process. His works will be performed by accomplished musicians at this one-off event.

THEATRE: Bleak House, Theatre Royal Winchester, Thurs 12 – Fri 13 Sep

Dickens’ gritty tale comes to the stage in Winchester this week in this adaptation by David Glass. Featuring a rather sketchy line-up of reprobates (the characters, not the actors, mind!) you can really feel the gloom and doom of Victorian London while cheering on the fact that love will conquer it all.

EVENT: Southampton Boat Show, Mayflower Park, Fri 13 – Sun 22 Sep

boat-water-watercraft-163236Fancy yourself sipping champers aloft a beautiful yacht in the Med. While the dream may be slightly unattainable (I’ll keep checking my Lotto tickets in the meantime), you can certainly dip your toes into the water with the annual extravaganza that is the Southampton Boat Show. Featuring impossible dreams and some more realistic ones, there’s also plenty of entertainment and quirky extras to check out on a visit.

THEATRE: Death In The Afternoon, The Diving Museum, Gosport, Fri 13 Sep

Part-theatre, part-true crime this fantastic free show at Gosport’s Diving Museum is all about a little duel that took place just mere meters from the location back in 1854. Not only was it totally illegal but is also possibly the final time a person died on British soil with this archaic practice. Who were they? Why were they fighting? All will be revealed this weekend.
