EXHIBITION: Stars of Fleet Street, Dimbola Museum & Galleries, Freshwater, Sat 26 Oct – 15 Dec
This exhibition is a throwback to the golden era of newspapers when Fleet Street reigned supreme over what the world knew (or in some cases didn’t know). Featuring the work of five prominent photographers, this will give attendees a snapshot into behind the scenes of the famous snaps, the celebs and royals they worked with and where they went next.
THEATRE: Les Misérables, The Mayflower, Southampton, Tues 29 Oct – 23 Nov
Vive la révolution! Les Misérables is a classic show and continues to enchant audiences both on stage (as well as screen – partly filmed in Hampshire, no less!) many, many years after it first appeared as a live performance. The show will be taking over the Mayflower for the majority of November and bringing classic show tunes such as I Dreamed A Dream and Do You Hear the People Sing? to the stage. Bring your hankies, it’s a tearjerker.
THEATRE: Murder, Margaret and Me, The Kings Theatre, Southsea, Mon 4 – Sat 9 Nov
Get your detective caps on for this semi-biographical play about Agatha Christie’s friendship with actress Magaret Rutherford. Featuring Lin Blakeley (Eastenders) as author Christie, this looks at how the Miss Marple story almost never came to be on our screens.
EVENT: Playzone Adult Night, Cosham, Tues 5
Soft play wasn’t really a thing when I was a kid, and I have to say I’ve always been just a teeny bit jealous of my kids when they dash around, headfirst down slides, having a whale of a time. However, the tides have turned as Playzone is hosting one of its famous adults-only nights this month. Grown-ups, giant slides and booze – what could go wrong?
COMEDY: Ben Elton, The Anvil, Basingstoke, Tues 5
Lighten up your Tuesday night with one of the tour de force of comedy. Ben Elton is known for his stinging stand-up, excellent writing and generally being a little bit outspoken. This latest show sees him trying to make sense of the current chaos in the world in a witty and ‘If you don’t laugh you’re going to cry’ fashion.
FIREWORKS: Broughton Firework Display, Stockbridge, Tues 5 Nov
The only display actually on the 5th, Broughton is getting super traditional with a torchlight procession from The Square, a raffle and the firework display at 7:30pm. There’s a licensed bar, plenty of cosy local spots and all the countryside feels with this one.
EVENT: Claudia Bradby Jewellery Sample Sale, The Grosvenor, Stockbridge, Thurs 7
Double bubble with this one, spend an evening perusing some awesome jewellery bargains from Hampshire’s Pearly Queen Claudia Bradby at one of our fave spots in Stockbridge. FIREWORKS: Cromwell Arms Fireworks Night, Romsey, Thurs 7 Nov
After a successful 2018 event, The Cromwell Arms in Romsey is throwing its very own display on the 7th. The display kicks off at 7:30 pm and is followed with live music at 8pm. And, you’re at a pub so you’re already winning with this one. Adults £5, children £2.50
TALK: Meet the Distiller with Winchester Distillery, The Leather Bottle, Mattingley, Thurs 7
Winchester’s famous distillery has just launched a brand new look for its famous Twisted Nose Gin (have you seen it? It’s gorgeousssss). To celebrate the Winchester Distillery are hosting a special meet the maker event at The Leather Bottle in Mattingley, with tasters, a Q&A and a chance to find out what goes into our fave botanical sprit. Tickets are £10.

Masterchef ‘s 2017 winner Saliha Mahmood Ahmed is cooking up a right old storm in Stockbridge this evening. Drawing on her Pakistani heritage, mixed in with some Indian and Persian flavour, the menu features mouth-watering dishes such as Mughlai Lamb and Turkey Chapli Kebab Bites. Tickets are £45 pp.
EVENT: Mary Rose Platinum Ship Hall VIP experience, Portsmouth, Fri 8
No doubt at some point you’ll have seen the amazing Mary Rose – be it on a school trip or just to check out the historic icon. This week sees a SUPER exclusive chance to see Henry VIII’s ill-fated ship up close and personal with a special VIP experience. You can actually go into the Weston Ship Hall and get just a few feet from the wreckage, guided by an expert and catch a glimpse like no other. It’s not cheap at £250 per person, but this is a major once in a lifetime opportunity, and you get a goody bag, refreshments, access to world experts and a year’s ticket thrown in. Amazing!

Dave Gorman is known for his amusing presentations and insightful mirth, and with his latest show heading to Basingstoke, it’s a great chance to see his famous Powerpointing in action. If you’ve ever heard of Googlewhacking or laughed yourself silly at Modern Life Is Goodish (the Toot-Toot switcheroo was inspired), then you’re going to love this evening of graph-based hilarity.
MUSIC: DJ Yoda + The Cuban Brothers, The Engine Rooms, Southampton, Fri 8 Nov
Need to throw off the week’s hassles and just get down and dancey for the night? Then grab a ticket for this double billing of awesomeness in Southampton this Friday. Hip hop sampler DJ Yoda is always a crowd-pleaser, and the iconic Cuban Brothers will make you laugh your stilettos off. Tickets start at £11.20.
EVENT: Winchester Film Festival, Fri 8 – Sat 16 Nov
Tipped as ‘Winchester’s window into the global zeitgeist’, this celebration of short films in the county capital is definitely worth checking out if you’ve got a love for film. The two themes for this year are Love, Sex & Gender and People on the Brink, both of which provide plenty of thought-provoking celluloid to take in.
EVENT: Embody Radiance Day Retreat, The Retreat New Forest, Sat 9 Nov
When was the last time you felt ‘radiant’ (And no, that lovely glow you get after a few vinos doesn’t count)? Channel your inner Queen with a full day of getting some reconnection with yourself. Led by Julia and Dulcie, this one-dayer will include everything from Qoya to hypnosis, with some super tasty vegan food as part of the day. Tickets are £180, but it’s a small price to pay for some well-needed focus.
FIREWORKS: New Milton, Sat 9 Nov
Originally planned for the 26th but shifted due to an incredible amount of “weather”, New Milton’s display will be lighting up the skies at 7 pm and comes with a side of kids’ rides, copious amounts of local cider and all the flashing novelty lights your kids can nag you into buying. Adults £6 Children £4 (up to the age of 16) Children under 4 are free.
MUSIC: Think Floyd, Medina Theatre, Newport, Sat 9 Nov
Celebrating a whopping 40 years since the release of The Wall, the Island’s is getting its own taste of The Floyd in the form of Think Floyd. As well as songs from the iconic album,p lus a few bits from other classic albums (Hello Dark Side of the Moon), this comes with a full-on laser show as well. Tickets cost £23.50.
EVENT: Winchester Bonfire and Fireworks, Sat 9 Nov
An ancient town for an old custom, Winchester is definitely the perfect place for one of our bizarre British traditions. Running annually since 1958, this is the warm-up for Christmas in Winchester (arguably one of the best spots in the country to do it as well). With a rock choir performing, torchlight procession through the streets of the city before the 7:45pm display, this is well worth waiting for. £7.50 Standard Tickets and £35 Premium Tent Tickets (exclusively available online).
COMEDY: James Aldersons: Bring Back the 80s, The Spring, Havant, Sat 9 Nov
With a name like Bring Back the 80s and I KNOW that this is going to be awesome. Comedian James Aldersons’ show is an amusing look back on the decade that brought us Pac Man, Duran Duran and microwaved lobster as a dinner party showstopper. Tickets are £14 which is much cheaper than trying to build a time machine. If you miss this one, he’s also playing the show at Ashcroft Arts on Sat 23.
MUSIC: Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers: Tribe 25, The Point, Eastleigh, Sat 9 Nov
The Point is pushing the envelope again with this world music masterpiece from the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers. Europe’s longest established taiko group, this is a captivating show demonstrating skill, music ability and stamina (honestly, they must have some super muscled arms with all that drumming!) Tickets cost £20 and it’s suitable for all the family.
EVENT: West Quay Ice- Rink, Southampton, Sat 9 Nov – Sun 5 Jan
Winter is coming, and while that usually conjures up images of dragons and Sean Bean getting killed (again) it actually means that the skating rinks are returning to our towns and cities. Wooohooo! Southampton’s West Quay is kicking off from Sat 9th, perfectly placed for you to do some Christmas shopping as well, and features the Moguls Alpine Bar and a fab view of the ancient walls of Southampton. Skates on!
