THEATRE: Les Misérables, The Mayflower, Southampton, Tues 29 Oct – 23 Nov
Vive la révolution! Les Misérables is a classic show and continues to enchant audiences both on stage (as well as screen – partly filmed in Hampshire, no less!) many, many years after it first appeared as a live performance. The show will be taking over the Mayflower for the majority of November and bringing classic show tunes such as I Dreamed A Dream and Do You Hear the People Sing? to the stage. Bring your hankies, it’s a tearjerker.
EVENT: Southampton Christmas Festival and Christmas market, Thurs 14 Nov– Mon 23 Dec
A traditional German market, featuring unique alpine chalets right by Southampton’s West Quay, this market is perfect for attending when you need to get all your Christmas shopping done in one hit. With over forty stalls selling handcrafted, authentic gifts including toys, soaps, jewellery and of course waffles… waffles galore! Also, Father Christmas will be intermittently flying over the crowds of shoppers in his sleigh to hand out presents to all the children.
FOOD & DRINK: Hampshire Street Food Awards, Portsmouth Guildhall, Tues 19
It’s the first-ever Hampshire Street Food Awards this week and the winners will be announced on Tuesday at a black-tie event in Portsmouth. Categories include the best burger, locally sourced produce and fan favourite, we’re excited to see who wins (and then will have to go and test them all out for ourselves!)
WORKSHOP: Silver Charm Necklace Workshop, J’adore Maison, Wickham, Tues 19
If you’ve not had the chance to check out one of Jewellery Move’s workshops (check out our review here), then this is a great one to start with. COMEDY: Josh Widdicombe: Bit Much?, Kings Theatre, Southsea, Tues 19
BAFTA-nominated comic Josh Widdicombe pops to Pompey for his latest tour this week. Bit Much? is the latest offering of Josh’s slightly grumpy but utterly relatable humour. There’s only a few tickets left for this one so be quick!
MUSIC: Jack the Ripper: The Musical, The Point, Eastleigh, Tues 19 – Sat 23
Serial killer meets show tunes? Ok then… This musical reconstruction of the events that occurred on the darkened streets of Whitechapel back in 1888 is tipped to be the ultimate Cockney Knees-Up. Expect plenty of thigh slapping and Ding Dongs (that’s Cockney for songs doncha know).
THEATRE: Dead Funny, Plaza Theatre, Romsey, Tues 19 – Sat 23
Held at Romsey’s gorgeous little art deco theatre, the Romsey Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society owns and performs offbeat community productions. This week sees Terry Johnson’s quirky production Dead Funny, apparently full of nudity, Benny Hill, custard pie fights and dark comedy.
CHRISTMAS: Winchester Christmas Market, Wed 21 Nov – Sun 22 Dec
Set in the stunning grounds of Winchester Cathedral this market is recognised as one of the best Christmas in Europe (it’s in Hampshire, so of course it is!) With its unique location, the market offers over a hundred chalets selling high-quality Christmas gifts, decorations and festive food. And, to burn off all that Glühwein, get your skates on for the ice-rink in the middle of the market.
FOOD & DRINK: Game Supper with Chef Gary, Myers Touch, Winchester, Thurs 21
This month’s Supper Club at Myers Touch is a celebration of game. Enjoy local wood pigeon and venison, all finished off with a chaser of sticky toffee pudding (you know how we feel about sticky toffee!) Tickets cost £45pp and it’s bring a bottle, so a perfect excuse to crack out that red you’ve been saving.
MUSIC: 80s Mania, The Anvil, Basingstoke, Thurs 21
We’ve had 80s comedy this month and now we’ve got 80s music. Arguably one of the best decades when it comes to the charts, this evening is packed with 35 hits from the era including good ol’ Madge, Madness and more. Dig your New Romantic togs from the back of your wardrobe and sing the night away at this one.
THEATRE: The Ladyboys of Bangkok, New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth, Fri 22
Sawadee kha! Everybody’s fave troupe of ladyboys is heading to Portsmouth this week for it’s Greatest Showgirls tour. Usually a little bit extra anyway (and who doesn’t love a glut of sequins) expect added feathers and pizazz at this epic performance of Thailand’s best-known exports along with a grumpy bloke from Oldham.
EVENT: Craft in Focus, Winchester Guildhall, Fri 22 – Sun 24
Oooh! Lots and lots of shiny things in Winchester this weekend as Craft In Focus combines the Contemporary Art & Design Fair and Desire Jewellery Fair. Whether you’re a budding crafter who can create Instagram-worthy items with a few pipe cleaners and glitter glue, or are totally creatively stilted, there’s plenty to see and buy at this event.
CHRISTMAS: Northwood House & Park, Cowes, Sat 23 – Sun 24 Nov
Sit back and enjoy the ambience of Northwood House this Christmas. With so many local gifts and crafts, this is the ideal Christmas Market to find quirky and unique presents for all the friends and family. You can even take the dogs to meet and have a photo taken with ‘Santa Paws. And best of all, it’s free admission, so more money for the Christmas booze shop.
EVENT: I Love Wight Christmas Market, The Garlic Farm, Sat 23 – Sun 24 Nov
The wonderful Christmas market is back for the fifth year on the trot. Along with the huge range of fab foodie gifts available from the farm itself (Garlic Vodka, yes please!) there’s plenty of other artisan products on offer and it would be hard not to find something to sink your teeth into (potentially a garlic-laced mince pie… hmmm).

Get yourself ready for the festive season ahead with a night of absolute choons on the Island. Playing the best of the best from the 80s and 90s, this event is split into 90s night on the Friday with special guests Dario G + Urban Cookie Collective and an 80s night on Saturday with 3/4 of what was Bucks Fizz – The Fizz.
