New openings galore! With swanky new places to stay, an exciting festival announcement and much more, come check out the word from the Hants and IoW streets.
The new year is going off with a bang with oodles of interesting gossip from around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Swishy new hotels, cool new cafes and a good dollop of festival goss’. Come over here and I’ll tell you all about it.
Boutique Hotel Southampton Bound
Southampton has some pretty cool places to stay such as The Pig in the Wall and The White Star Tavern, and brand new for 2019 is the Moxy Hotel. This 209 room “boutique” hotel is part of the Marriott International group and will be opening sometime in 2019 on Harbour Parade. There are currently Moxys in Berlin, London and other super-cosmopolitan spots, so it makes sense that super-cool Hampshire would be on their list of places to be. More information on opening as we get it.
Let’s get Cosy
Speaking of new openings, word on the street is that Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth is the latest spot for super-pub brand Cosy Club. Opening on the Tuesday 26 March, it’ll be located in what was The Water Margin, meaning you’ll get a top-notch view of the harbour and Emirates Spinnaker Tower for some laid-back lunching. We can’t wait to try this one!
While they’re still keeping their cards close to their chest for the headliners, Portsmouth’s Victorious Festival is looking like it’s going to be off the hook this year. A few of the acts were announced just before Christmas and include legends like The Specials, James Bay, Clean Bandit, The Vaccines, The Hives and The Rifles. If this is the calibre of the sub-headliners, then the festival is going to be bonkers! I’ll let you know as more acts are announced. Best get working on that festival wardrobe and grab tickets.
A brand new development is set to open this year on the Island, giving us yet another reason to escape over there for a few days. Woohoo! St Helens Coastal Resort will feature a range of lodges and modern caravans for those who want a simple getaway with the family but want a bit of a luxe spin. They’re taking bookings from Friday 3 May.
Because we ALWAYS need coffee, I was rather excited to see that Triple Two Coffee is about to open a branch in Southampton. With its Insta-pretty interiors, huge food menu and on-trend beverages, I can see myself setting up shop in here for a few hours, Con Panna in hand.
New Eco-Friendly Shop
If one of your resolutions is to keep your waste in check then zip along to Fleet as they’ve got the shop for you. Just opened, Scoop is a purveyor of all things zero waste. From eco-toothbrushes to loose herbs and spices, you’ll be able to ditch the unnecessary plastic packaging and feel all warm and fuzzy you’ve done your bit.
