<p><br>Basingstoke has had its very own brush with Hollywood glamour this autumn as Spider-Man swung into town – quite literally. In September, the usually businesslike Basing View was transformed into 1970s New York, complete with NYPD cars, tanks, explosions and plumes of smoke, as filming took place for <a href="http://Spider-Man: Brand New Day," target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day</em>,</a> the fourth instalment in the hit Marvel franchise. At the time, the man behind the mask wasn&#8217;t revealed but was believed to be a stunt double.</p>



<p>Now, in a thrilling twist for fans, <em>the</em> Spider-Man himself has finally been spotted on set. English actor turned Hollywood hottie <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tomholland2013" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tom Holland</a> was spied coffee cup in hand and accompanied by a dog, outside Fanum House in Basing View.</p>



<p>Crowds gathered as Holland and his stunt team filmed a dramatic chase sequence involving a military vehicle and NYPD officers. Between takes, the friendly neighbourhood hero even paused to wave to fans – proving that even while dodging explosions and armed vehicles, he’s still got time for his audience. <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day</em> is set to hit cinemas in July 2026, but for now, Basingstoke is enjoying its starring role in the Marvel universe.</p>

<p>It’s been a glittering week for the South’s luxury stays, with several Hampshire and Isle of Wight favourites scooping top honours at the 2025 AA Hospitality Awards and newly announced Michelin Keys. </p>

<p>Headed up by Masterchef The Professionals winner <a href="https://hants.muddystilettos.co.uk/life-2/people/chef-tom-hamblet/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tom Hamblet</a>, Winchester’s <a href="https://www.exclusive.co.uk/the-avenue/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Avenue at Lainston House</a> also joined the fine dining elite, earning an impressive three AA Rosettes for its refined, modern British cooking.</p>



<p>Meanwhile, <a href="https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/article/travel/all-the-michelin-key-hotels-in-the-uk-ireland" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Michelin’s Key Awards </a>– the lodging equivalent of its famous restaurant stars – placed several local gems firmly on the map. <a href="https://www.heckfieldplace.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heckfield Place</a> in north Hampshire secured a coveted Two-Key rating for its world-class design and quietly luxurious country living, while <a href="https://forestershall.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Foresters Hall</a> in Cowes, <a href="https://hants.muddystilettos.co.uk/travel/uk/hotels-inns/review-lime-wood-new-forest/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lime Wood</a> and <a href="https://www.chewtonglen.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chewton Glen</a> in the New Forest and <a href="https://www.fourseasons.com/hampshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Four Seasons Hampshire</a> each took home One Key for their exceptional hospitality and distinctive styles.</p>

<p>Winchester’s caffeine scene just got a little stronger as local favourite <a href="https://www.ohcocoffee.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OHCO Coffee</a> cut the ribbon on a brand-new shop in The Brooks Shopping Centre this October. The independent roastery, already well-loved by the city’s coffee crowd, will serve its signature brews and beans from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Saturday, along with delicious homemade cookies and brownies and top-tier brewing gear for home.</p>

<p>Petersfield foodies, get ready to sharpen those chopsticks – <a href="https://www.misoasia.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Miso Asia</a>, Chichester’s much-loved pan-Asian canteen, is expanding into town. Known for its vibrant mix of Japanese, Thai, Korean, and Chinese dishes, the restaurant is all about fresh, made-to-order sushi, comforting curries, sizzling noodles and steaming bowls of ramen that have already won over diners in Chichester’s city centre.</p>



<p>Taking the place of the now closed Ruby &amp; Monty&#8217;s eatery on the High Street and aiming to open in early November, the Petersfield outpost promises the same relaxed canteen-style vibe and flavour-packed menu – a culinary journey across Asia without leaving Hampshire. Locals are already buzzing about the opening, with Miso Asia’s signature blend of authenticity and innovation set to make it the town’s next go-to dining spot for everything from quick lunches to flavour-filled feasts.</p>

<p>Fresh hope for one of Shanklin’s most recognisable watering holes as the Chine Inn – perched on Chine Hill with knockout views across the English Channel – has finally found a buyer. The long-vacant Isle of Wight pub went under the hammer in September after its asking price was trimmed, attracting a lively bidding war.</p>



<p>The historic inn has been closed for several years but still oozes potential. Auctioneers described it as a “real tourist magnet in waiting” thanks to its prime spot near Shanklin Chine, Ye Olde Village and Big Mead recreation area. The sale marks a promising new beginning for the landmark pub – fingers crossed for a fresh pint being poured there before too long.</p>
