<p>A former military training ground turned nature haven, Hogmoor Inclosure is now one of the most impressive outdoor spaces in East Hampshire – and its adventure playground is a major draw for families.</p>



<p>Set beside a lake within 54 hectares of woodland and heathland, the huge play area blends beautifully into the landscape and is packed with adventurous equipment for all ages. The showstoppers are two towering pyramid climbing structures connected high above the ground, with a gleaming slide back down for the brave.</p>



<p>Elsewhere there’s a zip wire, rotating climbing discs, wide slides and plenty of climbing challenges, while a large sand play zone offers younger kids a more relaxed space to dig, build and socialise. Once the playground has been thoroughly conquered, the wider site offers three waymarked walking trails, sculptures dotted through the woods and plenty of picnic spots. There’s also an on-site café and the nearby Shed café if you’re after something more substantial.</p>

<p>Tucked away on Arundel Street, Landport Adventure Playground is part of Portsmouth City Council’s network of free adventure playgrounds that runs during term time and school holidays. The site has a large grassy play space packed with wooden structures, loose parts and plenty of scope for imaginative play. Think den building, climbing, sand play, tree scrambling and zip lines. There’s also an indoor space where children can tap into their creative side with arts and crafts, plus activities ranging from gardening and construction projects to wildlife spotting and dress-up. </p>



<p>Aimed at 6-13s, it’s all overseen by qualified play workers who encourage kids to explore, take sensible risks and build confidence while they play. (Younger children are welcome but will need to be supervised).</p>

<p>Set within the leafy grounds of Royal Victoria Country Park, this shady adventure playground is a solid bet for letting kids run wild while you enjoy one of Hampshire’s prettiest park settings. Handily located near the park café (strategic coffee stop sorted), the enclosed play area sits alongside wide open fields that are perfect for picnics, ball games or a post-play wander.</p>



<p>The playground caters for children up to 14 and centres around a large wooden fort packed with slides, tunnels, nets, a wobbly bridge and easy-climb ramps – basically catnip for mini adventurers. There’s plenty more to keep them busy too, including swings for all ages (toddler, chair and basket), a roundabout, a climbing wall and zip wires, plus a fun jeep for imaginative play.</p>



<p>Younger children aren’t forgotten, with a smaller multiplay unit and slide, while quirky extras like flower ‘telephones’, a musical wall and a sensory garden add a playful twist. Several pieces of equipment are also fully accessible, making this a thoughtfully designed space that works for families.</p>

<p>Over on the Berks-North Hampshire border, Wellington Country Park&#8217;s adventure playground&nbsp;has it all – giant zip wire, dinosaurs, mini golf, animal farm, jumbo bouncy pillow, miniature railway anda swashbuckling pirates ship, the HMS Duke of Wellington, named after the founder who opened the park in 1974 for local families. Little ones have their own play zone with sand pits, water play and diggers. There’s also a superb café serving quality local produce – much of it from the Wellington Estate itself.</p>

<p>If you’re after big skies, wildlife and space for kids to roam, Alver Valley Country Park delivers in spades. Gosport’s largest green space stretches across 580 acres of woodland, meadows and wetlands, making it a brilliant destination for family walks with a playground pit stop built in.</p>



<p>The play area has a natural, outdoorsy feel with equipment including a cableway, wave swing and climbing poles, plus plenty of surrounding space for running around. It’s part of the park’s wider “wild play” ethos, encouraging kids to climb, explore and get properly stuck into nature.</p>



<p>Beyond the playground, the park itself offers lots for families to discover. The River Alver winds through the valley creating ponds and lakes that attract wildlife including skylarks and water voles, while trails weave through woodland and meadow habitats. Look out for Apple Dumpling Bridge – named, legend has it, after a woman who sold apple dumplings to soldiers here during the Crimean War. There’s also a café, picnic spots and family-friendly walking and cycling routes, making this an easy choice for a low-key outdoor day.</p>

<p>The adventure playground at Little Beaulieu is less “play park” and more full-blown fantasy kingdom. Designed to echo the architecture and history of the estate, this imaginative playground invites kids to climb, crawl and explore their way through a wooden world inspired by nearby Beaulieu Palace House.</p>



<p>At the centre is a magical wooden palace packed with hidden passageways, tunnels, rope challenges and lookout towers. There’s a treetop boardwalk, a climbing wall, a rope maze and a zip wire for thrill seekers, plus plenty of secret corners for imaginative play.</p>



<p>Younger visitors have their own dedicated area with a sandpit and a wooden play bus modelled on Beaulieu’s historic Veteran Bus. When energy levels drop, the nearby café kiosk provides snacks and drinks, and there’s plenty of space in the surrounding parkland for a picnic.</p>



<p>Entry to Little Beaulieu is included with admission to Beaulieu, so it’s best tackled as part of a full day exploring the estate. Or if you’re a New Forest local, a good one to return to for a few hours of outdoorsy entertainment with an annual pass.</p>

<p>Right in the heart of the city, Southampton Common offers 365 acres of woodland, lakes and open grassland – and one of the best playgrounds in the area. The large, play space is designed for adventurous play, with zip wires, climbing towers, swings, slides and roundabouts.</p>



<p>A kiosk serves ice creams, drinks and snacks during weekends and school holidays, while nearby Hawthorns Urban Wildlife Centre has a café, loos and indoor seating. Add the surrounding woodland walks, ponds and wildlife-rich habitats – much of the Common is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest – and you’ve got a playground that’s easy to turn into a full day out.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-finkley-down-farm-andover"><a href="https://www.finkleydownfarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Finkley Down Farm</a>, Andover</h2>



<p>One of the UK’s original farm parks, Finkley Down Farm has been entertaining families since 1981 – and its play offering is just as big as the animal attractions.</p>



<p>Outside, acres of adventure play include climbing frames, trampolines, jumping pillows, go-karts, sand pits and crazy golf, alongside the ever-popular Little Farmers Driving School. There’s also a large adventure play structure with slides, rope climbs and scramble nets for energetic explorers.</p>



<p>If the weather turns, the huge indoor play barn has different zones for different age groups, so younger and older kids can burn off energy safely. Alongside all the play, the farm runs regular animal feeding and handling sessions throughout the day, making this an easy all-weather option for a family day out.</p>

<p>Set on a working deer farm in the South Downs, Sky Park Farm combines wildlife encounters with a seriously good adventure playground.</p>



<p>Overlooking paddocks where curious Sika deer roam, the playground includes a hilltop fort, treetop walkways and climbing nets. There’s also an area for under-fives with a sandpit and swings. Away from the play area, families can follow themed trails across 70 acres of countryside, feed red, sika, axis and fallow deer, or enjoy a picnic beside the dew pond and River Rother.</p>

<p>Set within the peaceful green space of Abbey Meadows, this thoughtfully designed playground offers plenty to keep children of all ages busy.</p>



<p>The play equipment takes inspiration from nearby Titchfield Abbey, with themed climbing structures alongside a wide range of swings – including cradle swings, basket swings and an inclusive mirage swing with back support. There are climbing frames for both older children and toddlers, musical play instruments, rocking horses and a stand-up see-saw, plus plenty of seating and picnic tables for parents.</p>



<p>Beyond the playground, Abbey Meadows itself covers around 20 hectares of meadows, wildlife habitats and walking paths, with an active apiary and new wildflower planting helping boost biodiversity. Free parking nearby makes it an easy spot for a relaxed family outing.</p>

<p>Straddling the Hampshire–Dorset border, Moors Valley Country Park is a dream for adventurous families, with over 800 acres of forest, lakes and parkland to explore. Rather than one playground, the park offers a whole network of imaginative play areas. </p>



<p>The one-mile Play Trail winds through the forest with ten wooden play structures encouraging climbing, balancing and imaginative play along the route. New in 2025, the Ants Nest play area invites kids to climb through tunnels, scramble across monkey bars and explore ant-inspired structures, with separate zones for big and little explorers. </p>



<p>Younger children will love the Enchanted Woods, where fairytale-themed structures bring stories like Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood to life with stepping stones, tunnels and storytelling features. Add woodland cycling trails, lakeside walks and cafés and Moors Valley easily fills a full family day out.</p>
