The Wellington Arms, Stratfield Turgis
Muddy says: Get all the best of a traditional British inn while getting all the mod-cons at the newly refurbed, Wellington Arms.
The Wellington Arms, located within the Wellington Estate, is a traditional British pub with a modern twist.
After a huge refurbishment the pub, complete with 25 sumptuous rooms (launching in January 2019), is big on decent food, sourced from as close as possible to the pub itself.
Serving up great food, they also have a kids menu and a gluten-free menu (coeliacs rejoice!), plus offer a rather gorgeous Sunday Roast to boot.
Drinks-wise, they have an extensive (but not over the top) range of gins, beers and wines – ranging from the lower end of the spectrum to some really special treats.
The bar area is stripped back with rustic-vibed wooden fixtures, giving that real “Olde English” pub feel but without it feeling dark, while the private dining room is light and airy with interesting pictures dotted around.
There’s also a fabulous function room, catering to up to 160, complete with its own private bar and dancefloor.
If you’re looking for things to do nearby there’s the Wellington Country Park, Wellington Riding and Stratfield Saye House. If you fancy a bit of culture and shopping then you’re close enough to the towns of Reading, Basingstoke and Hook to pop in and have a mooch.
