The Tenth Hole, Portsmouth

Muddy says: A Pompey institution. Nowhere is more legendary for a slab of cake and good company than The Tenth Hole. Forks at the ready!

Speak to anybody from Portsmouth about where to get the best cake in the world and no doubt The Tenth Hole will get mentioned. Less about golf (though you can go for a little putt next door), this place is more about fantastic cake, excellent food and a brilliant cosy atmosphere. This is your absolute go-to for any celebration or just because…

We love the fact that during the summer, you can sit outside with some of the legendary Strawberry & Cream Sponge. Then, in winter, you can grab one of the blankets, hot water bottles and sip some luxe hot chocolate. This is a place for all seasons with a quirky indoor area that’s full of cosy little nooks along with toys for the kids, and a cake counter of your dreams… Honestly, I dream about the displays on offer there.

It’s a local affair as well. Meat is from nearby Bransbury Park Butchers, bread comes directly from Portsmouth Commercial Bakery and Portsmouth Fruit & Flower for the fruit and veg.

As well as the famous cakes, it also does a mean brunch and lunch. Seriously, their mac ‘n’ cheese is legendary. So, grab your bestie for a cuppa and a catch-up, take your mum and dad for a slice of something nice (and they may even pay, woohoo!) or win mega brownie points with your small people by treating them to something naughty.
