Friendly teachers and friends Philippa and Clare met at Durham University. They studied Education together and have been teaching for over 20 years. But having struggled to find touch typing classes for their children, in 2019 they set up QWERTYkids, running face-to-face classes in Hampshire and nationwide online.

As a parent of a child who has dyspraxia and dysgraphia, Philippa has experienced first-hand the freedom touch typing can give a child. Clare’s son has visual processing issues and ADHD. He was also recommended to learn to touch type. Trying to get him to do it at home by himself was boring and hard work. So Clare looked for a class nearby so he could learn with other kids. When she couldn’t find one, the QWERTYkids story began…

Fun and instructive, Clare and Philippa regularly get rave reviews from the kids and teens they teach – and their parents. Short and longer touch-typing courses challenge in an engaging way. Classes include games and THOSE coloured finger stickers. All of which helps students progress from ‘hunt and peck’ to lightning-quick, touch-typing ninjas.

As Philippa and Clare have discovered, children with or without SEN can really benefit from learning to touch-type. They passionately believe that it’s invaluable to everyone, but even more so for anyone with learning difficulties.

Speaking from experience, the pair know giving children a tool to communicate and express their thoughts freely can really help them make a breakthrough in their learning and communication. Seeing them confidently putting their new-found skills to use, parents of all students say it really helps with homework, note taking and remote learning.

Since the start of the pandemic, Clare and Philippa have been successfully teaching the majority of courses remotely, helping children all over the country (and abroad). They also teach in schools, run face-to-face and online Holiday Courses, after-school lessons, flexi-weekly courses and flexi-intensive courses.

QWERTYkids is an accredited skills provider for the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver Award. Learning to Touch Type with can also help with Personal Statements, Application Forms, online work and more.

Sound good? Then get your kids on to it! QWERTYkids offer remote and face-to-face touch-typing classes.
