The PIG, New Forest
A spot of rustic glamour in the New Forest, THE PIG is known for its local and homegrown produce, amazing culinary repertoire and sumptuous, but relaxing, rooms.

The original and still the benchmark, THE PIG is the one that started it all. Tucked a couple of miles outside Brockenhurst, deep in the New Forest, this country house hotel is the blueprint for laid-back luxe – and still one of the most talked-about foodie stays in the UK.
There are 30+ bedrooms (32 at last count), ranging from Snug and Comfy to Comfy Luxe, many with walk-in monsoon showers and freestanding tubs for long, soaky resets. Travelling en famille? The Family Rooms come with bunk beds and log burners (yes please). For something a little more whimsical, book Bert’s Box or the Forest Hut – quirky hideaways that dial up the countryside charm without scrimping on comfort.
Spa-wise, treatments take place in a converted Potting Shed and Shepherd’s Hut, which feels very on brand – botanical, low-key and blissfully removed from real life. It’s the kind of place where you wander between garden, greenhouse and treatment room in a robe and no one bats an eyelid.
Food, though, is the headline act. THE PIG famously calls itself a “restaurant with rooms”, and the 25-mile menu is still the beating heart of the experience. With produce plucked from the kitchen garden and hyper-local suppliers championed throughout, the dishes created by Group Chef Director James Golding and his team are seasonal, generous and quietly brilliant. Simple food, done exceptionally well – which, frankly, never goes out of style.
