Phoenix Inn, Hartley Witney

Muddy says: This 18th-century village gastropub is synonymous with locally sourced food, top roasts and awesome classic cars in the car park.

The Phoenix Inn has served the folks of Hartley Witney since the 18th-century. The simple, inclusive spot serves an excellent Gastropub menu – with a few unexpected star turns along the way.

Outdoors, the big pub garden is ideal for lounging with a glass of wine in the summer. And it’s not uncommon to find the car park rammed with Ford Model-Ts and Ariel Atoms – this is a popular hub for those looking for a relaxed atmosphere and good food.

The dishes on the menu at the Phoenix Inn Hartley Witney are dependent on what is available locally (big thumbs up) with an excellent seafood selection, game, veggie options and more. They are also pretty renowned for their (award winning!) roast dinners on a Sunday too.

As well as their weekly Mussels (Tuesdays) and Steak (Thursdays) nights, plus Fizz Friday, they also have a monthly “Carnivores” dinner club which celebrates different meat each month, carefully chosen and prepared by their head chef and running for in excess of 20 years.
