The Peat Spade, Stockbridge

Muddy says: tipped as one of Hampshire’s best pubs, The Peat Spade is quintessentially British, with beautiful Test Valley countryside mere minutes from the bar.

You don’t really get places more Hampshire than The Peat Spade. Located just outside of Stockbridge, within easy reach of everything from Winchester Cathedral to the New Forest Country Park, this is a characterful destination pub that has won acclaim as one of the best in the area.

The historic coaching inn is rightly lauded as a real foodie spot, with epic roasts with all the trimmings on a Sunday afternoon and seasonal mains, pub classics and specials such as smoked chalk stream trout tacos or confit duck leg – much of it sourced from local and sustainable suppliers. The tricky part here is deciding what to have on the day – and then what to come back for.

For those wanting to linger a little while longer, you can opt to stay in one of the pub’s modern and characterful rooms which are some of the most Instagramable going.

The ideal spot for those who love outdoor adventures (Stockbridge is the UK capital of fly-fishing, dontcha know?!) you don’t need to be super outdoorsy to appreciate this legendary Hampshire watering hole.
