New Park Manor Hotel in Brockenhurst sits right in the middle of the New Forest National Park. With a history that goes back as far as the Roman era, this grand building was once King Charles II’s favourite hunting lodge and also happens to be the one-time lodgings of a certain Nell Gwynn.

Nowadays it still has all of its glamour but also provides the perfect countryside escape for frazzled families. Original features of the grand building remain intact, with major period drama vibes coming from splendid fireplaces and the odd coat of arms dotted about. However, the hotel also feels very modern with bright-coloured furnishings in the lounges and even electric car charging available on-site.

Guests can choose to stay in one of the 25 well-appointed rooms, set across both the Manor House and Manor Wing, with a mix of traditionally decorated family rooms and some more quirky, contemporary style suites. The rooms are geared up for different types of families as well, with interconnected rooms on offer and even pet-friendly spaces if you want to bring Fido along with you as well.

The Stag is the hotel’s restaurant and during the day is the perfect chilled spot for dining with your brood. Children are well-catered for and there’s a menu full of kid-pleasers to prevent any meltdowns over fish fingers. At night, it becomes a far more cultured affair, allowing the adults to enjoy fine dining, safe in the knowledge the kids are safe and sound (the hotel also provides baby video monitors and all sorts of lovely things, so you can relax).

If you need a break from the smalls, there’s an on-site creche and each stay includes two sweet, sweet hours of complimentary childcare each day for the under 8s. For the older flock, there’s a teen spa, cinema room, chill-out zone, and with oodles of outdoor space right on the hotel grounds and daily family activities, there will never be a single utterance of “I’m boreeed!”.

Need to sneak off for a bit? Well then, the hotel also has a spa complete with a family pool and the all-important adult-only terrace (oh, yes!)
