New Forest Escapes

Muddy says: From family-friendly stays to chic celebration venues, the energetic women behind New Forest Escapes have gathered the very best properties in this magical pocket of Hampshire where ancient woodland meets the Solent.

Switch off your smartphones — if it’s escape you want, we bring you the New Forest.

A must-visit destination yes, but it still has that whiff of woodland-glade magic, where ponies graze free and small children might just glimpse a fairy.

No need to trawl the internet for perfect stays either, the energetic women behind New Forest Escapes have curated a collection of seriously special places: from Gins Barn, on the banks of the Beaulieu River, with its floor-to-ceiling glass, wood beams and Mexico-meets-rural-Hants design; to the child (and fairy) friendly Ploughman’s Cottage, all higgledy-chic gypsy caravans and gnarled, hide & seek fruit trees.

Oh and sorry, did we mention Pitt Deep Cottage? Hidden down a long track, where ancient oaks frame a wild beach, this is the spot where forest meets Solent and woodland gives way to nothing but pebbles, salt marsh and migrating birds.

Cottages sleep four to twelve people, and everyone is catered for — from birthday celebrations and hen-dos, to multi-generational, family-friendly stays.

Guests can book story-tellers and magicians to visit for parties, or simply for the fun of it, and the New Forest Escapes team loves nothing more than dressing the houses for a theme; hello your Arabian Nights fortieth birthday party.

They can also organise private catering, babysitting, birthday cakes, and in-house pampering.

The cottages are well-stocked with toys and other pre-school paraphernalia; Grandparents’ mobility needs are taken into account as well, just ask if you have specific requests.

We’ve whetted your appetite now haven’t we? Then you should definitely head over to New Forest Escape’s new website, but be prepared to lose yourself for hours. As well as swoon-worthy property-shots, there’s a brilliant things-to-do in the New Forest blog including waterparks, forest bathing and… tracking unicorns. Yes, really.
