Henry’s at The Master Builder’s House, Buckler’s Hard, Beaulieu, New Forest
Tucked away in the riverside hamlet of Beaulieu, historic Henry’s is everything a proper New Forest pub should be – relaxed, characterful and full of charm.

If riverside rambles and pints with a story are your thing, Henry’s at The Master Builder’s House is the kind of pub you’ll want to linger in long after last orders. Set on the Beaulieu River in the historic village of Buckler’s Hard, this is a spot steeped in maritime legend – once home to master shipbuilder Henry Adams, who crafted over 40 Royal Navy ships right where you now sip your pint.
Inside, Henry’s is cosy and characterful with low beams, flagstone floors, and the hum of contented chatter. The atmosphere is pure New Forest – unfussy, welcoming, and quietly confident. The menu hits that perfect middle ground between pub comfort and chef-led flair. Think beetroot-cured salmon with horseradish cream, twice-baked Gruyère soufflé, or seared scallops with crispy pork belly and sweetcorn.
For heartier appetites, “The Henry” burger (double patty, truffle mayo, the lot) and beer-battered haddock with chips are local legends. Sundays, of course, are for roasts – perfectly golden Yorkshire puds piled high with sirloin, chicken, or a cracking veggie option.
Behind the bar, you’ll find local ales, house Pilsner, and a proper cocktail list (the New Forest Bramble is a must). Dogs doze happily by the fire, walkers refuel after a river stroll, and celebrations spill naturally into long evenings.
In the summer months, the seasonal outdoor Crew Bar serves as an extension of Henry’s Pub. Take your pick of food from the Henry’s menu and enjoy a good selection of draft beers and cider or handpicked wines overlooking the stunning Beaulieu River.
