The Crown Inn, Upton

Muddy says: Not just any average country pub, this is a country pub with MAJOR foodie kudos. This Bib Gourmand toting location is run by Dave Watts an alum of Raymond Blanc’s Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and Hampshire native.

Crown Inn Upton Main

It must be quite a bit of pressure to take over a Bib Gourmand winning inn, but that certainly hasn’t phased the newest proprietor of The Crown Inn in Upton, Dave Watts.

Dave was born in Hampshire and cut his foodie teeth at the tender age of 21.  With a CV that includes eight years at the glittering Michelin gem Le Manoir and a head chef role at Cotswold House, he’s gone from strength to strength before returning to his Hampshire roots – and boy, we are lucky to have him!

The Crown Inn, located just outside of Andover, has that perfect balance of “traditional” pub charm with a modern twist with both its food and interior. However, the star of the show HAS to be the food. With French rustic cuisine meets modern flair (along with a few left-field influences chucked in for good measure), the pub retained it’s Bib Gourmand status for the 2020 Michelin Guide and is set to continue to be a destination spot for Hampshire foodie fans.

Check this place out if you want to eat a burger that is SO much more than a burger, want to enjoy the peaceful Hampshire summer in its beautiful garden or cosy up by a roaring log fire after a brisk Winter walk in the Bourne Hills. Forks at the ready, we’re going in!

The Crown and Upton are so lucky to have such a great Chef in Dave and his Sous Chef Tim.
The food is fantastic and has some unusual twists. Each meal has been seriously thought out and all combinations work with wonderful flavours tempting your taste buds.
What also is wonderful is that both Chefs come out from the kitchen and talk to you making themselves known which is great and it is quite obvious they love their food and have a passion.
I wish them every success and wait in anticipation for my next visit.
