The Crown Inn, Upton
Muddy says: Not just any country pub, The Crown Inn has MAJOR foodie kudos. The Michelin Bib-toting resto is run by top chef David Watts, an alum of Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir.
It must be quite a bit of pressure to take over a Bib Gourmand winning inn, but that certainly hasn’t phased the newest proprietor of The Crown Inn in Upton, Dave Watts.
Dave was born in Hampshire and cut his foodie teeth at the tender age of 21. With a CV that includes eight years at the glittering Michelin gem Le Manoir and a head chef role at Cotswold House, he’s gone from strength to strength before returning to his Hampshire roots – and boy, we are lucky to have him!
The Crown Inn, located just outside of Andover, has that perfect balance of “traditional” pub charm with a modern twist with both its food and interior. However, the star of the show HAS to be the food. With French rustic cuisine meets modern flair (along with a few left-field influences chucked in for good measure), the pub retained it’s Bib Gourmand status for the 2021 Michelin Guide and continues to be a destination spot for Hampshire foodie fans.
Check this place out if you want to eat a burger that is SO much more than a burger, want to enjoy the peaceful Hampshire summer in its beautiful garden or cosy up by a roaring log fire after a brisk Winter walk in the Bourne Hills. Forks at the ready, we’re going in!
