The Cart and Horses, Kings Worthy, Winchester

Wagons roll! Head for this characterful, renovated pub for seasonal specials, Sunday roasts and a stellar drinks list.

Located just a few minutes’ drive from Winchester, the Grade II-listed Cart and Horses in the heart of Kings Worthy has had quite the transformation.

Reopened in summer 2023 following a million-pound investment, the 250-year-old building has beautiful interiors and restored heritage features including original brickwork, 18th century oak beams and open fireplaces.

Just outside of the city centre, onsite parking isn’t a problem. And there’s electric vehicle charging points to juice up your electric motor while you refresh yourself.

Date nights and celebrations are covered with cosy snugs and a private dining area. Outside, there are wild countryside-inspired gardens and plenty of tables for alfresco dining and drinking.

The Cart and Horses’ carefully curated food and drinks menu is developed by Executive Chef, Ben Silvester and newly appointed Head Chef, Aaron Reay. It includes daily specials made with the best of in-season produce. There’s Mediterranean-inspired small plates and sharing boards and pub classics such as dry-aged steaks.

Sunday Roasts are served sharing-style with roast potatoes, rainbow roots and seasonal greens. And there’s a kid’s menu full of favourites and more sophisticated fare for discerning young diners.

An extensive drinks menu means you won’t be stuck for something to go-with, either. It includes over 45 bottles of sommelier-selected wines, three ale taps, bottled beers, spirits and house cocktails. There’s also plenty of non-alcoholic and soft drinks and ethically roasted coffee, too. Cheers!
