Berry Bros. & Rudd, Basingstoke

This award-winning wine merchant’s modern shop is a grape-lover’s dream; all Champagne, fine wines, spirits and the very best easy-drinking bottles.

Did you know that the UK’s oldest wine and spirit merchants has a shop in the easily accessible outskirts of Basingstoke?

If you love great wine (or Champagne, or gin…), the Berry Bros. & Rudd Basingstoke Shop is the place to learn more AND pick-up some very well-priced bin-end vintages in the process. *ducks stampede up M3*

Stepping through the door, the shop has an airy, gently urban feel with staff who are passionate and knowledgeable about all things grape and grain on-hand to guide you through the thousands of wines and spirits.

All prices, all tastes and all wine-making areas are covered, so if you’ve a favourite region or grape variety in mind, you’ll almost certainly find something to please. Friendly and helpful, the focus at the Berry Bros. & Rudd Basingstoke Shop is on helping shoppers find wines that are drinking well now and in the near future (right up Muddy’s street) at every price point.

Popular buys at the Basingstoke Shop include the best-selling Good Ordinary Claret, from Berry Bros. & Rudd Own Selection range, as well as some of the very decent drops from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Celebrations and Friday night fizz are also well covered with the fresh and citrusy Crémant and non-vintage Grand Cru Champagne.

A genuine treasure trove, you’ll find plenty of wines at the Berry Bros. & Rudd Basingstoke Shop that you’ll struggle to find elsewhere, with rare bin-ends that are an absolute joy to behold. Prices start at just a tenner and head skywards to super-sized bottles of Moët, hitting the ceiling with the 2001 Vosne-Romanée, Les Beaux Monts, 1er Cru, Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, coming in just under a cool £4.5k (and no, sadly, that one’s not on test!).

The Berry Bros. & Rudd Basingstoke Shop is managed by Dario Cinti. Very experienced in hospitality, Dario has worked as both a Mixologist and Sommelier. And he’s super knowledgeable, too, especially about Italian wines and his favourite bottles from Champagne, Burgundy, Alsace and Germany.

Assistant manager Mark Ferguson previously worked across wine retail and for specialist wine importers before joining the Berry Bros. & Rudd team. He’s a big fan of Spanish wines and those from quirkier French wine-growning regions, like the Jura.

Rather than default to popular regions and grape varieties, the shop often promotes the wines of smaller, lesser known, regions such as the Jura and Beaujolais, along with the very decent selection of still and sparkling wines produced here in England.

Like to try before you buy? So do we! A selection of wines are always open to taste on the Berry Bros. & Rudd Basingstoke Shop tasting table, with a weekly theme. And there are monthly masterclasses on Saturdays from 2pm to 3pm to help you learn even more, too. À votre santé!
