Bembridge Coast Hotel, Bembridge
Picture this: No kids, rooms with sea views, leisurely full-English brekkies, coastal walks and a spa to be completely spoiled in… make way, we’re checking in.
A stay at the adults-only Bembridge Coast Hotel is seriously romantic mini break slash escape territory. So close to the sea you could almost throw pebbles in the water from your room, the hotel is right on the beach. A speedy 20-minute drive from the Wightlink ferry terminal at Fishbourne, its a great place for a fantastic seaside stay-and-spa experience.
Checking in is a breeze and from the get-go, you’ll be treated like royalty. Built in 1905 and once owned by George V’s Lord in Waiting, the hotel was also a favourite of Queen Mary and the late Queen Mother. Suits us…
Set in 23 acres, the Bembridge has 258 bedrooms graded from Standard, Signature, Royale and Garden suites. All are with mod cons, tea and biccies, free WIFI, of course, and super comfy beds and armchairs. Some have sofas with fireplaces, landscaped patios and balconies to make the most of those views. Snag a balcony room to watch the sunrise over the Solent.
As this is an adults-only hotel, you can revel in total peace and quiet and after a workout in the gym (well, that’s one idea…) or a few laps of the pool. Bliss out in ‘Tropicarium’ with sauna and steam room and then adventure into the Salon spa. Here, divine Temple Spa products, Jessica and Mii Cosmetics are used in mani pedis, eye treatments, makeup makeovers and ‘fix-ups’ and luxe bespoke spa treatments like the Red Carpet Miracle Facial promise instant radiance, getting you all aglow in a relaxing 55 minutes.
The Champagne and truffles deluxe treatment – the “crème de la crème of facials” – involves a warming gold face mask, champagne, silk and truffles in a wonderfully decadent 85-minute whirl of ‘me time’. There’s a Go Guy facial for ‘Male executives’ too, which concludes with a detoxifying foot massage and a sensory Brush With Heaven massage that uses brushes while you doze but we’re all wrapped up in the Glorious Mud wraps and hot stone massages too.
If you can (or must) drag yourself away from all that pampering, there’s plenty more to do with lawn bowls, Nordic walking and archery or sashaying Strictly-style with a dance lesson.
Á la carte dining at Four Tides Restaurant balances heartier bistro classics with Asian flavours. For starters there’s pulled beef mac and cheese or hot smoked mackerel parfait or tempura vegetables with mango and coconut yogurt. Follow up with mains of Katsu crispy chicken and Korean style stir fry veggies, Keralan vegetable and lentil curry… or roasted pork loin from the ‘butchers block’ with fresh sage; lamb with lemon and rosemary or slow braised blade of beef. To finish, take your pick from warm brownies, apple and raspberry tart or a scoop or two from the ice cream parlour. Mini-break heaven.
