Bel & The Dragon, Odiham

A super-cosy country inn with a seasonal British menu, a surprisingly extensive cocktail menu and 15 stylishly-appointed bedrooms for when you need to sleep it all off.

We’re big fans of Bel & The Dragon country inns, but the Odiham offering is definitely something special. This Grade II-listed former inn sits in the pretty village of Odiham near Hook in Hants, and is packed with the signature Bel & The Dragon smart styling and laid back family-friendly charm.

The menu is predominantly British gastro with dishes ranging from everything from the traditional fish and chips and Sunday roast to chicken Milanese with fried hens eggs and prawn and lobster linguine with samphire. There’s a replete kids’ menu and an excellent breakfast choice for those staying the night (Eggs Royale, yes please). For colder evenings, grab a spot by the fire in the 14th century snuggly nooks of the bar.

There are fifteen bedrooms onsite, all stylishly appointed by local gal and interior designer Nicola Harding. Expect crisp linens, super king beds, Roberts radios and colourful artwork. Staying as a group? The Coach House is a newly renovated five-bedroom annexe which is perfect for individual or group bookings.

Bel and the Dragon prides itself on unpretentious quality and suits an eclectic mix of families, romantics, businessy drop-ins and celebratory groups (ask about the private dining room and tailored menus). You’re close here to the Basingstoke canal and plenty of picturesque country rambles here too should you want to venture into Odiham and beyond.
