aBar Bistro, Portsmouth

Located by the Camber Docks in Old Portsmouth, aBar Bistro is a place to eat amazing food, drink equally amazing wine and watch the boats go by.

Now called The aBar Bistro, there’s been a pub or eatery on this spot as far back as 1784. And even though the name has changed many times over its long history, it’s remained a consistent sight in the ever-changing landscape of Old Portsmouth.

Thankfully, the Napoleonic Wars are now over (phew) but it remains a place to go and enjoy excellent seasonal food with a view of the bustling port.

Serving up people-pleasing dishes such as moules mariniere and the famous aBar Burger (which comes served in a delicious brioche bun) the restaurant also has one of the best wine selections in the city and is even it’s own standalone wine merchants – Camber Wines.

Open for lunch and dinner, this is a firm favourite with many locals (it even appeared as a backdrop to some of my wedding photos!) and people return time and again for excellent food and its paired back ambience.
