aBar Bistro, Portsmouth
Located by the Camber Docks in Old Portsmouth, aBar Bistro is a great place to eat amazing food, drink equally amazing wine and watch the boats go by.
Now called The aBar Bistro, there’s been a pub or eatery on this spot as far back as 1784. And even though the name has changed many times over its long history, it’s remained a consistent sight in the ever-changing landscape of Old Portsmouth.
Thankfully, the Napoleonic Wars are now over (phew) but it remains a place to go and enjoy excellent seasonal food with a view of the bustling port.
Open for lunch and dinner, this is a firm favourite with many locals who return time and again for the excellent food and paired back ambience.
Serving up people-pleasing dishes such as moules mariniere and the famous aBar Burger (which comes served in a delicious brioche bun) the restaurant also has one of the best wine selections in the city. And no wonder – it even has a standalone wine merchants – Camber Wines – just upstairs.
New in 2021, aBar’s wood-burning pizza oven puts Pepperoni, Margherita, Bresaola and more on the menu all day Monday to Saturday. It also comes as a takeout – a tasty sofa supper if you happen to live in the ‘hood (lucky!).
Planning a Christmas get-together? After last year, we all deserve a good party – or three! aBar is a great spot for a lively or low-key celebration. Available from 26 November 2021, parties of up to 60 people can book for lunch, afternoon sittings or dinner, dining from a delicious, modern British menu filled with top-notch produce.
