AA Guide 2022 – local restaurants ranked
Planning a posh meal? Hot off the press, the AA Rosettes have been dished out to 47 brilliant local restaurants around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Hot off the press, The AA have just published their coveted AA Rosette awards, ranking restaurants all around Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Want to know how your local did? Here’s the verdict!
HAMPSHIRE
Four restaurants in Hampshire achieved a three rosette rating, 27 received two rosettes and 12 snagged one rosette – a brilliant 43 awards in all around the county.
THREE ROSETTES
The Terrace Restaurant at the Montagu Arms Hotel in Beaulieu has retained it’s three AA rosette ranking under head chef Matthew Whitfield. They say: “You’ll find the best available local produce on the menu, whether south coast hake or wild garlic from the Forest.”
Emsworth’s 36 on the Quay also got a three AA rosette rating. The guide highlights the restaurant’s “gently contemporary interpretations of classic dishes” and “wonderful setting, in a 17th-century building.”
Featured on TV earlier this year after celebrity maître d’ Fred Sirieix paid a visit, the AA inspectors are also big fans of Lymington’s three AA rosette Elderflower Restaurant. “Whether it’s the à la carte or tasting menus, expect well-balanced dishes with a real depth of flavour.”

The final Three AA Rosette ranking in Hampshire went to The Limewood Hotel’s brilliant Hartnett Holder & Co restaurant, headed-up by Luke Holder and celeb chef Angela Hartnett (above).

This year, four Isle of Wight restaurants were awarded Two or One Rosette in the 2022 AA Guide.
TWO ROSETTES
Thompsons, Newport: The AA Guide describes Robert Thompson as “an ambassador for the island” and praises his “eloquently executed dishes” and “serious commitment to island produce”.
The Seaview Hotel, Seaview. They say: “The cooking is refined with classic techniques letting tip-top ingredients speak for themselves.”
The Royal Hotel, Ventnor is described as “a handsome slice of Regency grandeur on the Isle of Wight’s south-east coast.”
ONE ROSETTE
Smoking Lobster, Ventnor. They say: “Fish and seafood are king, and the pocket-sized galley kitchen sends out a nice line in Asian-accented dishes to go with the glorious sea views.”
