Hello 2020! The best local places to celebrate

What you doing for New Year's Eve? One of these 22 awesome gatherings, that's what! From overnighters to pub parties, dinner destinations to bar crawlers, raise your glass to 2020.

Can’t be bothered to have New Year’s Eve at yours this year? Here are 22 brilliant options in Hants& IoW, from Stiletto-worthy events to dinner down your local gastropub – either way, you’re guaranteed a glass of fizz in hand at midnight and a sore head in the morning.

For party animals

partyThrow some shapes at Gunwharf Quay’s latest opening The Alchemist with its NYE -Le Freak Afterdark party this New Year’s Eve. As well as THE most bonkers drinks (seriously, I had to smash orange flavoured edible glass to get to my tipple when I visited) glitter is apparently mandatory, for this 70s themed shindig.

Keeping on the sparkly theme check out the New Year happenings at Southampton’s HarBar on 6th. Gold is the colour of this New Year gathering, and along with a cracking view across Ocean Village and the possibility of spotting some local celebs, you’ll be able to dance your way into 2020 with style. #allthemoves

Get your head up in the clouds for one of the more unusual venues on this list as the Spinnaker Tower throws a Casino Royale spectacular. Not only will you get a cracking view across the whole of the Solent, but you’ll also get to see ALL the fireworks when the clock strikes 12.

Not to be outdone on the quirk-factor, hop aboard a boat for an evening at Solent Forts’ New Year’s Eve Party. For £175pp, you’ll be treated to a four-course dinner, tour of the incredible Napoleonic Fort and a DJ spinning tunes until the next decade. Seriously, I doubt you’ll find another New Year’s bash as unique as this one.

If you fancy a slap-up meal to soak up all that plonk, then check out the fab menu at The Elvetham. With a four-course meal, drinks on arrival and the promise of a bacon sarnie before they send you home, you can dance the night away to the sounds of Groove Instinct before getting on those resolutions in the morning.

Over on the Island, foodie favourite Little Gloster is serving up a slice of Hogamany happiness with IoW produce inclusive of crab and lobster. Along with chef Ben’s fab dishes, you can party the night away before the impending New Year’s Day hangover.

Not content with one party, Audley’s Wood in Basingstoke is hosting TWO! There’s the £130pp Black and White Gala, complete with black tie five-course meal and fireworks, or for something a touch more intimate (and a lot less cheesy dancing) book up the £130pp Simonds Room special for a romantic way to see out 2019.

Over in Winchester, Hotel du Vin is hosting a hot-to-trot foodie gathering at its in-house bistro. The Auld Lang Syne gala is £110 per head and has a definitively Francais feel with its fab fare, inclusive of Tournedos Rossini, Seabass Wellington and Tarte Fine au Poire with Calvados ice-cream…. gosh, I’m hungry now.

Over at  Le Blaireau at Careys Manor they’re saying “Bonne année” with a French-inspired five-course meal, packed with New Forest fare, and dancing till the clock strikes twelve (and a bit after, of course!) It’s also a fabulously frugal £85pp.

Keep It Local

Another Muddy fave, The Crown Inn in Upton is celebrating its first New Year under chef/owner extraordinaire Dave Watts. With drinks and nibbles in this cosy country pub setting, you can see in the brand new decade along with plenty of tunes from the live band, The Moonlighters.

If you’re over on the Island then head along to the Dairyman’s Daughter Barn Dance at Arreton Barns. Favoured by the locals and with a stonking buffet, you can enjoy all the quaintness of the Wight for a pocket-friendly £19.95pp.

Another fave of ours is the Running Horse Inn near Winchester who will be throwing an evening of tunes, fun and a buffet full of fab food for the stonking entry price of…. zilch. More money for gin, woohoo!!Running Horse

If you’re stuck without a babysitter… errrr planning on happily dragging the kids somewhere, then head over to Southampton’s Aeges Bowlas BEEFY’S by Sir Ian Botham is holding a family-friendly event complete with a gorgeous three-course dinner. Chances of Monsieur Botham turning up himself are quite high I reckon too.

The Village Hotel in Farnborough is throwing its final party of the year, and they’ve allegedly saved the best till last. Tuck into a selection of awesome courses including Roasted Seatrout or Fillet of Beef Wellington before tearing it up on the dancefloor all night.

If you’re looking for something pared back but not substituting any of the glam The Grosvenor, Stockbridge is holding its first New Year’s party since its new ownership. With an evening of drinks, dancing and plenty of pizza to soak up all the festive cheer for £35pp, this is one event you won’t want to miss.

The Overnighters

Go big or go home because one of our faves – and hotel of the year no less – Chewton Glen is holding another of its famous New Year’s House Parties. Starting off with an Afternoon Tea, champagne reception, dinner, drinks, dancing plus a piper… AND that’s just the first night… See in the new decade with total style with packages for two starting at £3,140.

For an Island escape this New Year how about checking into Sandown’s Trouville Hotel? At three-nights from £367 per person, with food, drink, room and entertainment all included, you can party into 2020 and enjoy a quiet getaway to one of the Wight’s fave beach spots as well.

Somerton Lodge

Also on the Island is New Year is the Somerton Lodge Alcohol-Free overnighter. This is the perfect party getaway for those who can’t or don’t want to drink, but still want to have a rip-roaring good time. The party alone is just £10, and you can also book in for an overnighter for £70 or three nights for £210. Whatever you fancy though, you’ll be hangover free so can explore the Island at your leisure as well.

Back on the mainland, it’s all about seeing in 2020 in style and there are bags of that at the New Place Hotel. With two parties to pick from, opt for the super glam three-course soiree at the Exclusive Arden Suite for £95pp or £129pp with accommodation. Or head into the Manor House for a five-course meal, drinks and dancing for £95 per person for the party, or £149pp for overnight accommodation as well.

New Place Hotel

Poshest frock out for the super glam Gala Dinner at Oakley Hall Park near Basingstoke. As well as a menu packed with dishes such as Duck & Foie Gras Roulade, drinks, dancing and complimentary late check-out of New Year’s Day, you also get to wake up in 2020 in a grand as heck countryside manor house.

Make sure to get some spa relaxation in before the two-day hangover with a visit to the Solent Hotel. Choose from the Gala Dinner or more relaxed Chef’s Buffet, one-night stay or two, with prices ranging from £157pp to £245pp, all of which include full use of the spa as well.

Finally, for those who dare to break border control on New Year’s Eve, hop over the Berks border to Cliveden for a two night bash, starting on New Year’s eve with afternoon tea to line the stomach, followed by champagne in the evening and a four-course dinner. It’s black tie and there’ll be live music and a disco, plus a karaoke led by Cliveden’s biggest fan Meghan Markle (this bit might be made up). You’ll get another gourmet dinner the next day, plus breakfast on both mornings served by Prince Harry. OK, I’ll get my coat.
