Afternoon tea at Chewton Glen is always an occasion. Tuck into luxurious smoked salmon and turkey, cranberry and chestnut stuffing finger sandwiches. Follow-up with a scone or two, then on to seasonal sweets like salted caramel and clementine cupcake, cranberry and white chocolate slices and chestnut and quince mousse. Tasty. £45pp + service. Tylney Hall, Hook, until Thurs 23 Dec
The late Victorian manor in North Hampshire is decked out in its festive finery, ready to serve up a festive afternoon tea in this grandest of settings. Settle in by the fire in one of the beautiful lounges, with a spot of bonus jazz on Sun 19 Dec. Nice. £35 – £42pp.

Hands down one of the best afternoon teas in this part of East Hants, the family-run Tea Barn’s festive afternoon tea is full of fantastic home-baked goodies like mini sausage rolls, clementine and cranberry cheesecake, gingerbread cupcake and mince pies. Cosy. £15.95pp; £10.95 per child.
The Grand Café, Southampton, until Fri 31 Dec
Modern opulence close to the docks in a historic building, once the hotel of choice for passengers on luxury liners heading for the New World. Look out for the Smoked Salmon with Beetroot Crème Fraiche sandwiches and chocolate brownies. If, like us, you end up defeated, ask nicely and they’ll give you goodie box. First class. £25pp. Add a glass of prosecco for £5pp and champagne for £10pp.
New Park Manor, New Forest, until Wed 22 Dec
Brilliant for littlies (and suitably luxurious for grown-ups), New Park Manor’s family-friendly festive afternoon tea is full of gorgeous goodies. Book on select dates and enjoy an audience with Santa, too! Jolly. £27pp; £20 per child (with a small gift from Father Christmas).

Follow-up festive retail therapy Winchester-style with finger sandwiches, hearty scones and tasty patisserie like macarons and chocolate and raspberry mousse cups. Sweet. £24.95pp/£29.95 includes a glass of prosecco; £12.50 per child.
