Sun, sea and skin care
When science meets beauty magical things happen. We put the legendary Environ Facial through its paces at the Island-based Seaview Beauty Clinic.
The Seaview Beauty Clinic is located in the north-east corner of the Isle of Wight in the well-heeled village of Seaview. Nestled amongst some gorgeous indie shops, this is close enough to Ryde to be easily accessible from the mainland but secluded enough to really maximise on that peaceful Wight vibe.
Here you are literally metres from the beach, so definitely worthy of a seaside stroll either pre or post pamper.
Owned and run by Evgenia Baranova-Gibbs, her passion and knowledge for health and skincare is palpable and her wit and warmth instantly put you at ease.
She has travelled the world with her skills and has even coiffured the brows of Paris Hilton (true story!). Following a lengthy time in the Netherlands running a 5* hotel spa Evgenia migrated to the Wight and fulfilled her lifelong dream by opening the Seaview Beauty Clinic.
The seaside vibes follow you from the outside into the clinic, and the interior is simple, bright and impeccably clean. With bare wood floors and furniture, plus a beachy ambience, the whole place makes you feel like you’re on holiday. Instant relaxation, for sure.
The building has a number of treatment rooms with space to expand in the future as well. The building the clinic is ine was once home to a nightclub, and despite its slightly raucous past, the clinic is now a serene environment making it the ideal spot for a spot of R&R.
Skin, aesthetics and body treatments – they cover them all and more at this place. Evgenia is also training in nutrition as well to bolster her already encyclopedic knowledge of the human body and biome.
On my visit, I had the opportunity to have an Environ Facial which encompasses a mixture of vitamins and soundwaves to work on any skin complaints and improve the tightening and elasticity of the skin. This facial was originally designed as a medical treatment for skin cancer patients by Dr Des Fernandes, but as an added bonus it also refreshes and totally rejuvenates skin, so is equally effective as an aesthetic treatment as well.
The skin is prepared with a double cleanse with a range of vitamins including Vitamin A, C and anti-oxidants before being pushed through the skin using a sonic probe. The device itself looked like a crazy magic wand and was used on my face in a circular motion. It was an interesting experience – although not unpleasant – and I could actually hear the sound waves inside my head which sounds a bit mad but was almost meditative.
Before and during the process, Evgenia chatted to me about my skincare regime and also went into a little bit about my diet and lifestyle. Having tried my hand at the whole 10-step Korean beauty regime she explained my skin was very dry and I was overworking it. Also a mixture of late nights and rich food were probably not helping either (Oops!). She advised stripping my routine right back to the bare basics of soap and a damp cloth, matched with a decent moisturising routine.
After the vitamins, the next step of the process saw a special alginate mask applied to my face that was made of a conductive compound. When the comical-looking mask had dried, electrodes were attached which oxygenated the serum and lock in moisture. As a side-note, it was incredibly satisfying to see the whole thing peeled off in one go afterwards.
Following the process, my skin instantly felt better. I’ve always felt like I had “good” skin due to genetics (cheers mum!) but it was only after seeing the after-result did I realise how grey and sad it had been looking.
My face felt instantly tighter, brighter and certainly a lot happier. The results have continued to develop over time and as we’ve headed into the grey and murky autumn, my skin is feeling a lot less congested and the dryness I normally get at this time of year has, so far, not appeared. Also worth noting is that a spot of hyperpigmentation that has been plaguing me for years was a lot less noticeable afterwards as well. Hooray!
COST: The Environ range of facials start at £70 and go up to £85, there’s also an express facial for £45 as well. You can see a full list of prices here and also the huge range of other treatments they provide. There’s also a £10 off voucher if you sign up for the newsletter as well.
