Spotted: Banksy in Hampshire
A Banksy-style mural of a kite-flying boy has appeared in Winchester, sparking local excitement. But who is the mysterious artist?
Local socials were buzzing about a potential Banksy work spotted in Hampshire on Mother’s Day. The mural of a rainbow kite flying boy appeared on a footpath by the Handlebar café in the St. Catherine’s Hill area of Winchester.
The Banksy style street art piece was so convincing that it made national headlines. But soon after, it was claimed by a fellow anonymous street artist @hendog_art.
Rather sweetly, the mystery artist wrote on his Instagram page: “To all the mums, I left a little surprise at the @handlebarcafe for you happy Mother’s Day. You really deserve it ❤️.” Awww.
We can totally see why locals have a lot of love for the piece. Plenty have rushed to praise it on the artist’s Insta post. When and where will the mystery Winchester painter strike next?
The last time a bona fide Banksy piece appeared in Hampshire was his ‘Game Changer’ painting depicting a superhero nurse. It appeared in Southampton Hospital in 2020.
A gorgeous tribute and one of his most impactful works to-date, the work is now being auctioned to raise funds for the NHS. Bravo, Banksy.
